Government Apprenticeship Policy Update

The government announced a strategic repositioning of apprenticeships this week, moving from “upskilling the existing workforce” to an “entry-level employment route for young people.” The Government is bringing in some exciting financial incentives which practices will be able to take advantage of to support investment in hiring and training staff. These include, but are not limited to:

●      £3k grant for hiring unemployed 18–24-year-olds (on benefits for more than 6 months).

●      £2k incentive for hiring 16–24-year-olds (benefits not a requirement).

We are still waiting for confirmation on timeframes and how these incentives can be combined with other offers. We will keep you updated in the coming weeks.

To fund these new incentives, the Government has announced the defunding of some of the most popular apprenticeship standards, including:

●      Level 5 Operations Manager

●      Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care

●      Level 3 Team Leader

●      Level 6 Chartered Manager (Degree)

The Government is providing a transition period for these defined standards so that individuals can still take advantage of the funding until September 2026.

We are currently supporting applications for a cohort of Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeships. This will be the final cohort and there will likely be a limit on places. We will continue to provide updates on placement limits, but we encourage interested parties to get in touch before the 31st March -  GP Practice Operations Manager Apprenticeship

Another announcement is that there are new opportunities for the existing workforce in the form of short, flexible training courses. The first units available include AI Leadership, and these will be fully funded for non-levy paying employers. Again, we will continue to update on how practices can make the most of these opportunities.
