North Central London Training Hub homepage

This page has been created to support general practices across North Central London in delivering a clear, consistent and supportive induction for non-clinical staff. We recognise how central functions such as reception, administration, care navigation and coordination are to the smooth running of general practice — and how much they shape the experience patients and colleagues have every day.

To help you structure an effective induction, we have brought together key resources that introduce new staff to the expectations, skills and behaviours required in primary care. One of the core tools is the Receptionist Competency Framework (Level 1), which outlines essential competencies across areas such as clinical systems, patient communication, health and safety, governance, prescriptions, and understanding the wider primary care landscape (including PCNs and ARRS roles). The booklet can be used to guide learning, track progress, identify training needs and support appraisal conversations.

Alongside the competency framework, this page signposts staff to trusted learning platforms — including NHS Elect and e-Learning for Healthcare (eLfH) — where they can access high-quality training to build their knowledge and confidence. These resources complement your local, practice-specific induction and help ensure a consistent standard of training across North Central London.

Our aim is to make induction practical, supportive and meaningful, giving staff a strong foundation for their role and a clear sense of how they can grow within primary care. We hope this page helps you create an onboarding experience that not only meets regulatory expectations but also supports staff wellbeing, development and long-term retention.
