Book Training for you and your Colleagues by SignHealth - Domestic Abuse in the Deaf Community
Funded by London Councils, SignHealth are proud to continue their work supporting Deaf individuals in London by offering free training for hearing professionals.
A overview of SignHealth's service:
SignHealth runs the UK’s first and only specialist service for Deaf victims of domestic abuse and their families.
Our team of qualified Deaf Domestic Abuse specialists, including IDVAs and IDSVAs, use British Sign Language (BSL) and other sign languages to provide support.
We communicate directly with clients, building trust and ensuring the right support. This is safer and more cost-effective than using BSL interpreters.
We assess whether our service is right for each person and, if not, direct them to other appropriate services.
Their workshop, Domestic Abuse in the Deaf Community, covers:
Deaf people's experiences and fears when interacting with services
How to support Deaf individuals facing domestic abuse
Information on the Deaf community, resources, and information on our service
The training lasts about 2 hours (can be shortened) and is available remotely or in person. Minimum 5 participants, max 25.
If you have any questions or would like to book, feel free to get in touch with the team: da@signhealth.org.uk or 07800 003 421 (text only).
