Apply Now - General Practice Assistant Programme

The five London ICS Training Hubs have once again been procured to deliver the General Practice Assistant Programme. The programme has been accredited as a 10-credit module at Level 4 by the University of Greenwich.

Applications are now being accepted from candidates in NCL practices. The next cohort will commence on 3rd September 2025 and run for 21 weeks.

Learners on the programme will have six months to complete the course. Weekly online teaching sessions will run from the 3rd September 2025 until the 21st January, 2026. Learners will then have until  2nd March 2026  to submit their portfolio.  For those staff who work full time one day a week should be allocated for attending the teaching sessions, protected time with their supervisor protected time shadowing other staff and writing up their portfolio.

Recruitment and Selection Process

  • Applicants to the GPA programme ideally need to demonstrate

  • Completion of the care Certificate ( Please see the link to the Care certificate on e Learning for Health)

  • An understanding of the role

  • Commitment to the required learning within their hours of work, this may need to be negotiated if applicants are working part time

  • A named GP supervisor will supervise the work

  • Their employer is fully supportive of them completing the course

  • Readiness for study at level 4 with a good command of written English
