NHS England Survey: General practice workforce engagement
NHS England has in place a range of measures aimed at supporting the general practice workforce that have been introduced over time. These include:
GP recruitment and retention schemes
The introduction of new patient facing roles in General Practice
Increased provision of health and wellbeing initiatives
NHSE want to understand the impact existing approaches to recruitment and retention have had to feed into future proposals for support for people working in general practice. This includes improving overall understanding of the experience of people with protected characteristics and the seldom heard, so we can identify any disparities in experience and any adjustments required to meet their needs.
It is clear that the people who work in general practice know what is needed, as such NHSE are looking for colleagues working in general practice/people in your networks and groups to participate in this.
As outlined on this landing page, there are some immediate opportunities to get involved, including:
A survey about GP recruitment and retention schemes which is available online for completion and will be open until January 15
An expression of interest to participate in focus groups about what frontline staff think is needed to strengthen workforce retention. We aim to hold these initial focus groups over two weeks between January 16 to 27. Anyone wishing to register their interest can complete a form online.
These surveys and focus groups are the start of a programme to identify further options to make primary care a great place to work.
Do get in touch by emailing scwcsu.jointheconversationtransformation@nhs.net if you would like to discuss this further or have any other suggestions about how NHSE can reach out with these opportunities to get involved.
