Physician Associate Regulation is Here
From 16th December, Physician Associates (PAs) will officially become a regulated profession under the General Medical Council (GMC).
This is a significant milestone for PAs, enhancing patient safety, professional accountability and recognition within the healthcare workforce.
To ensure PAs are prepared for regulation, they need to follow these 5 key steps outlined by the GMC:
Create or update your GMC Online account.
Complete the application form.
Submit the required identity and qualification documents.
Pay the registration fee.
Receive confirmation of your GMC registration.
For full details on the process, visit: GMC PA Regulation Information.
In addition the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has updated its guidance to include PAs in regulated services, providing clarity on their role and responsibilities in general practice. Employers are encouraged to review the updated guidance on the CQC website and the GMC’s announcement on PA and AA regulation to ensure compliance and maximise the benefits of this new regulatory framework.
Let’s mark this moment as a significant step forward for PAs!
