Establish your practice as an approved learning environment

Your practice can support healthcare learners and new clinical professionals in North Central London (NCL) by becoming an approved learning environment.

NHS England (NHSE) Workforce Training and Education (WTE) requires all environments that host learners on accredited training pathways to be approved.

The first step to becoming an approved learning environment is to register your interest.

This page will help you navigate the application and assessment process to register your practice as an approved learning environment.

There are three steps a practice must take to become an approved learning environment:

Step 1: Register your interest

It is recommended that the practice nominates an application lead to oversee and manage the application on behalf of the learning environment.

The nominated application lead will need to register the interest of the practice to become an approved learning environment in NCL.

Please note: GP practices that are applying for approval which also include new educator applications will need to register their interest via the educator and environment application pathway here.

Step 2: Application Form

The NCL Training Hub Faculty and Quality team will contact the practice following the submission of their expression of interest with instructions about the NCL assessment and application form, in addition to a link to submit the application paperwork.

The application form will ask the practice to evidence how it supports educators and learners against the six domains of NHSE WTE’s Quality Framework

Please refer to the NCL Quality resources page for additional information and guides to help you complete your application form.

Step 3: Attend an NCL Assessment

Once a practice has uploaded the application form and supporting documents the NCL Training Hub Faculty and Quality team will invite practice representatives to an NCL assessment.

You can find out more about NCL new educator and environment assessments here

The NCL assessment panel will make a recommendation to NHSE WTE to formally approve the practice as a recognised learning environment.

Please note that educators must also be approved in order to support learners. Educators may apply for approval together with their practice. You can find out more about the educator and practice approval pathway here.
