The Age Well Champion training is aimed at Enfield and Haringey health and care professionals who work in health, social care, and voluntary and community sector areas, and regularly work with people aged 50+ and want to learn more and/or refresh their knowledge about specific ageing well topics.

The Age Well Champion Training consists of completing a mandatory - core module "Building Resilience and Independence Frailty", plus two of the six optional modules that go into detail on specific age well topics. The content for each module is comprised of a mixture of national resources and information, and local Enfield and Haringey resources and information.

To become an Age Well Champion you will need to complete the core mandatory Building Resilience and Independence Frailty module in addition to at least two additional optional modules of your choice.

The training programme is divided into Clinical and Non-Clinical Champions depending on your professional experience and background.

Who is this Training for?

The Age Well Champion training programme is aimed at professionals with good knowledge of Age Well issues and will often support people aged 50+ in their day-to-day work. They will be engaged in cross sector working and know what to do next if the case is complex.  

Examples of who could become an Age Well Champion: 

  • People working in community navigation positions both in the VCS and statutory sector that work with older people regularly.  

  • District nurses 

  • Day centre staff 

  • Primary care colleagues: SPLW, care coordinators, health and wellbeing coaches 

  • Community pharmacists  

  • Allied Health Professionals

  • Social Workers  

  • Paramedics  

  • GPs 

  • VCS staff with specialist interest in certain age well areas e.g., Enfield Age UK staff, Haringey Reach and Connect staff. 

Duration of Training

The training programme is self-paced learning, which includes some workshops and an assessment quiz element per module.

Once registered for the Age Well Champion training programme the learning and assessments should be completed within 4 months to obtain your certificate of completion.

Assessment

Each module has an assessment element of an online quiz where the understanding of each topic would be evaluated.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training programme, you will be able to: 

  • Understand the key issues of ageing. 

  • Understand the support different ageing groups need. 

  • Understand the local resources and contacts available in your community to support the ageing population. 

  • Understand how roles in healthcare work and how your colleagues can support.  

  • Understand the key values and skills needed for an Age Well Champion. 

  • During the training programme you'll work to develop your learning, knowledge & skills for Age Well issues.

This training programme is Free.

What are the Development opportunities at the end of this training programme?

Once you have completed the Age Well Champion training programme you will have access to a number of workshops that will be provided from time to time to continue your learning and development of Age Well issues and resources to support the ageing population in your community. 

Certification & Continual Professional Development (CPD)

On successful completion of the core module plus the two additional optional modules, participants will be granted a Clinical/Non-Clinical Champion recognition title by a certificate of completion issued by NCL Training Hub.

Be part of the Age Well Champion network (community of practice) in your local area.  

People from the local community will be able to request to contact their local Age Well Champion through an online form on our website.

Continuing Professional Development

This programme will allow you to learn something new, refresh existing knowledge, improve skills, or simply keep up-to-date with the latest in the ageing well subject.

Parts of this programme are delivered by eLearning for health (e-lfh) where you will receive CPD credit on completion of those modules and some optional training can be counted as self-directed learning(SDL) towards your CPD hours.

If you are a healthcare professional/NHS staff member you can complete the EOI below and access the Age Well Champion training programme.

For non-NHS staff/non-healthcare professionals - Please ask your line manager to nominate you and complete the EOI below on your behalf. Self-nominations from non-healthcare professionals/NHS staff are not allowed.
