Education Faculty

What is the Education Faculty?

The Education Faculty is comprised of faculty programme directors across NCL’s five Boroughs who work together to design and grow education workshops and resources, either as standalone workshops on a local footprint, or for pan NCL events. Much of the education is in Borough Multi-Professional Educator Groups (MPEGs) on a Teach-The-Teacher model; you will have access to narrated slides, videos, facilitator notes and lesson plans to disseminate learning and share with your practice teams, groups and networks.

Multi-Professional Educator Groups (MPEGs)

What are Multi-Professional Educator Groups?

Multi-Professional Educator Groups (MPEGs) bring together trainers, educators and supervisors by through local borough education sessions. These MPEG sessions provide education and peer support opportunities for educators and supervisors at all levels and roles in primary care, with opportunities to share challenges and best practice. Each NCL borough runs their own MPEG, led by the local borough faculty Programme Director.

How do I join my borough MPEG?

To join your local MPEG, sign up for forthcoming workshops by selecting the workshop you would like to attend in the Events Calendar Tab on the right hand side of the page. By registering for a session, you will be informed of future MPEG workshops and be invited to join borough WhatsApp chats. You can also contact your local borough Training Hub at the email addresses below to sign up to receive regular communications about forthcoming workshops local education and training updates:

Multi-Professional Educator Group FAQs

Who can join an MPEG?

MPEGs are open to all roles working in Primary Care. This includes senior educators of all multi-professional roles - in particular colleagues who support, or plan to support, learners with their education, or a role as a clinical supervisor or similar – in addition to junior clinicians and those new to practice. Other non-clinical roles are also welcome to join. MPEG workshops do not require any prior knowledge levels; education that is delivered is relevant to all colleagues wishing to develop skills in a Primary Care role and enhance their CPD, in addition to supporting clinicians in a supervisory or leadership role.

How often does my MPEG meet?

MPEGs meet regularly across the year. Delivery of education is through both online sessions and longer in-person workshops.

Online sessions may occur more frequently, typically monthly or bi-monthly, often for an hour as a lunch and learn workshop.

In-person sessions may occur every quarter or half yearly, at a local venue.

At times, the Education Faculty might also run events which are pan-NCL, and on other occasions your borough will link in with local GP Trainer’s Groups.

What type of education does my MPEG deliver?

MPEGs deliver workshops on a range of topics that are informed by local and national learning needs. These can include topics such as:

  • Feedback

  • Understanding multi-disciplinary teams

  • Supporting learners in difficulty

  • Neurodiversity

  • EDI

  • Psychological safety

  • And more.

To suggest a topic for an upcoming MPEG, you can reach out to your borough Faculty Programme Director or contact nclicb.facultyofeducators@nhs.net.

What other support does my MPEG offer?

MPEGs are communities that offer peer support; they are opportunities to meet colleagues from across your borough and depending on your experience, you might share your experiences and contribute to case studies supporting colleagues.

What MPEG resources are available to me?

You will have the opportunity to bring back road-tested resources back to your practice to share with your own team. Education is delivered within a Teach-The-Teacher model; this means you will have access to narrated slides, videos, facilitator notes and lesson plans to disseminate your learning.

Are there any pre-requisites to joining an MPEG?

There are no pre-requisites to joining your borough MPEG.

MPEGs are a great way to introduce you to different aspects of being an educator, and will help identify some of these aspects that you may already be doing in your daily role.

You do not have to be an approved educator to join; your MPEG can help you with the first steps towards applying for educator approval through the Training Hub, while approved educators can highlight participation when submitting the reflective statements as part of the NHSE PCN Self-Assessment exercise.

NCL Supervision Toolkit

What is the NCL Supervision Toolkit?

The NCL Supervision Toolkit was developed by the NCL Education Faculty as an online resource that offers guidance on how organisations can build and grow effective supervision for their teams and learners.

Case studies, feedback and a consensus on how to support effective supervision from practice teams who have engaged with local MPEG workshops on key supervision skills underpinned the development of the toolkit and the creation of bitesize chapters which include narrated slides and workbooks to watch, download, and work through at the learner’s own pace.

Access the toolkit by clicking below.

Communities of Practice and Subject Expert Groups

The Education Faculty supports the Communities of Practice (COPs) and Subject Expert Groups to connect clinicians and teams through shared experiences, and the exchanging of ideas on clinical and universal topics to positively impact on care delivery across NCL.

You can join our existing groups, or if there is different subject specialism that you would like to share with the wider workforce, then you can propose a new group engage with the Education Faculty to develop a strategy for sharing learning.
